先日のコラムでクルーグマンは、
Meanwhile, our understanding of wage determination has been
transformed by an intellectual revolution — that’s not too strong a word —
brought on by a series of remarkable studies of what happens when
governments change the minimum wage.

an intellectual revolutionan とまで言って最低賃金引き上げを称揚した。

このrevolutionは、David Card and Alan Kruegerの研究成果を指しているが、
ちょうど今週のEconomist でこれに言及している。
The evidence seemed to support the scepticism of dismal scientists until a study in 1993 by David Card
and Alan Krueger found that employment in New Jersey restaurants actually increased in response to a minimum-wage rise.

ただし、
Twenty years later, the debate is still not settled, but the sides have converged.
という判断で、クルーグマンのrevolutionとの評価とは全く異なる。

新聞記者より、ノーベル賞受賞学者が言うことのほうがはるかに大きな重みがあるが、
この件に関しては、たぶん、クルーグマンは「話を盛っている」のではないかな？

at least when the　starting point is as low as it is in modern America.
と留保をつけてるし。（なら、an intellectual revolutionとまで言うなよ・・）
