On etiquette when you have received a correction

When you get a favor from someone, you say "Thank you" or do something like a bow
(or a click on the "Thank you" button) to express your gratitude,
even if it was not helpful to you.
I have always thought this is universal etiquette everywhere in the world.
Maybe I was wrong.
