Hey!!! All you NEETs, nerds, YouTube link spammers, pedophiles, neo-Nazis,
Yukorin enthusiasts, Nanako SOS admirers, Part-Time-Preachers,
Diplomats' spoiled sons, losers who can't remember Kanji characters,
Big-boobs fans, Weeaboo from around the world, learners of Japanese
who are too lazy to update their Japanese blogs very often, cunning
linguists, stupid fan girls of Johnny's Boys, Touhou pirates, and
that electrical super-gay who suffers from mental disease - This is your thread!
Let's hope the Internet-addicted housewife will come back soon!

We all wish for permanent world peace!

It is easy to use this site with apps. It's so sluggish when viewing with browser.
I don't know whether this is an useful site to practice Japanese. I tried to search the suitable board but I cannot find it cuz this is a dedicated site for Japanese native speakers.
Maybe you can create a thread here in English board as long as you can find a pretext that the thread relates to English in some way or just write something here in Japanese.

Looks like Team Japan put up a good fight last night (or this morning). Hope it will be a stepping-stone to our first tournament victory in the future.
I'm probably misusing the word stepping-stone, but you get the idea.

By the way, I think they lost because the original fortune-telling octopus was shipped to the market before the match.
At first Japan was winning by 2 points because of my superstition power.
But then they suffered the nightmarish 3 scores because of the curse of the octopus.
In the end, the combined power of my superstition and the reverse jinx I set up last night was not greater than the curse of the shipped octopus (red devil).

Your remark reminded me of Frankenstein. I have never read the book and have long wanted to read the original.
I've found the text on Gutenberg.org and learned also that there is a Japanese translation on Aozora-bunko.
I've just read only the first and the second paragraphs and found them very difficult, but the story seems intriguing.
I think it will take me a very long time to read it, but I want to try it little by little.

Frankenstein... Haven't heard that name in a while.
I once saw the book in my toy chest when I was a kid, which by the way, was the one my sister had borrowed from the local library; and even now she hasn't quite returned it yet. I think she's a Franken-whore.

Some people are saying Japan lost to Belgium because Japan didn't strengthen the defense after scoring 2 goals.
Some are saying that's because the coach was concerned about the previous match so he stayed offensive and aimed for the third goal.
Seems like the coach himself has said something about it in an interview. I don't know exactly what was in his mind, but that's nonsense.
I don't know much about soccer but I'm sure switching to a defensive stance after scoring 2 goals is a normal tactic. (Whether it would have been better against Belgium or not, I don't know)
Not doing so because he got booed for what he did in the previous match (and maybe wanted to make up for it) makes no sense.

50 :名無しさん@英語勉強中 :2018/07/07(土) 23:57:38.46 ID:6XyOJNl50.net
Japan should conduct research on those "gray zone" passing/delaying tactics in football, so that they can do it with deftness and without hesitation if the need arises in the future.
I think the decision whether or not to employ those tactics should be based primarily on the practice of the football world.
It should not be based on the volatile bitching voice of the media and SNS.

51 :名無しさん@英語勉強中 :2018/07/07(土) 23:58:57.86 ID:6XyOJNl50.net
Does anyone know how to say "gray zone" in English?

what is gay zone?

53 :名無しさん@英語勉強中 :2018/07/08(日) 00:32:13.86 ID:Dv0+w8300.net
My post 50 might be unclear so let me rephraise it.
Japan should study the history of the use of those tactics in the European football leagues or something and follow the precedent.
Hope this sentence makes sense.

The only reason I haven't seen her in person is because I live on the other side of the world. But just seeing her through pictures and videos and hearing her voice makes me happy.
I have no friends or family that I care about, so she's the only one that can comfort me.

And you completely misunderstood the situation. The Prime Minister stay informed about the disasters. Commanding rescue effort and holding press conference are completely different things.

Again, do not try to politicize natural disasters just only because the timing of press conference. Do not!

He's right. In the strict sense I think humidity is the key factor that influences your perception of the heat.
I flew to Okinawa few years ago in the summer. Once I took a step outside the plane, it almost felt like I just got into a sauna because of its hellishly hot & humid weather.

Is it right? They say it's more comfortable in Okinawa than in Tokyo especially in the summer. One of the most hellish climates of the world is found in the mainland of Japan because hot and humid atmosphere which comes from the equator falls around Tokyo. It is also true in case of the winter.

159 :名無しさん@英語勉強中 :2018/07/15(日) 22:01:31.16 ID:fLQ07UfF0.net
It's too hot to go to beaches anymore.
Statistics shows that the number of people going to the sea in summer are rapidly declining.
Summer becomes dangerously hot. We have no choice but to attribute this to global warming.

You didn't get my point. I meant your simple measurement of the temperature will be relatively less crucial in terms of determining whether people would actually feel it hot being there.
So instead I thought humidity was the one that plays the key role there. Also, you can't compare your subjective observation to those of others. Some people say it's hotter in Tokyo, others might not.
(Though I didn't say anything about Okinawa is the hottest area in Japan) And Okinawa is way closer to the equator than Tokyo.
I think you are referring to a phenomenon called "Heat Island", means the temperature will be higher in densely-populated areas due to the higher rate of its people's activities.

161 :名無しさん@英語勉強中 :2018/07/15(日) 22:24:28.76 ID:fLQ07UfF0.net
It's clear humidity affects how people feel the heat. Some air conditioners have functions not to lower temperatures too much while keeping humidity low. This is very useful function.

Kyoto city renews the record of temperatures. 38 Celsius degree is unbelievable.

I understand you just mention the humidity on how people feel it hot, but it is determined not only by how close to the equator the place is.
I just wanted to say the hellish climate with high humidity is brought about by the climate change. The atmosphere heated near to the equator once fell down on a lower latitude before, but now it falls down just around the main island of Japan.

On your daily commute to your workplaces you are promised to encounter many of strange people whose actions sometimes you can't bear watching straight.
One time I ran into this sick weirdo who had a big smile on his face all alone.
At first, I thought he was just chatting with a girl next to him, because he was totally facing on her direction.
But I couldn't quite tell since I always listen to music while on trains.
When I watched two of them closely, I noticed the girl looked very uncomfortable as he was closing his face on her.
Yes. He was a retarded molester. To my shocking surprise, he then started smelling her hair while smiling, and the girl was just too afraid to do anything about it.
Had been a while I saw a thing that genuinely made me sick back that day.

日本語は少ない文字数に沢山の情報を詰め込める。23 letters

The Japanese language can pack a lot of information in a short sentence. 72 letters

This difference could cause some trouble when using social media. Ability to write quite a few things in a short sentence could be used in a harmful way.
I've seen many cases celebrities are offended by nasty comments on their social media. Of course, celebrities overseas may also be annoyed by trollers but damages sustained in Japanese seems much severe.

I think Japanese celebrities should rethink how they deal with social media.

it is faster to write in it.

We are not hypocrite do-gooders like the Europeans. They are the ones who are going to be poor when internal conflicts break out in the future.
The West has a tendency to follow whatever trendy shit they have taken out from their ass until it ends in global disaster.
Last time it was imperialism/colonialism, which Japan mimicked and went to hell.
Globalism/liberalism is the new trendy shit and it is guaranteed to cause disaster again. Japan should never mimic it this time.

I put value on cosmopolitanism where people of any race can fairly chase after wealth, being independent from any restrictions by government to which they belong. Happiness index? You shouldn't base your thoughts on such a superficial thing.
Sweden is the most indoctrinated do-gooder country in Europe. It is the model district of do-gooders.
They get called nazis and racists if they raise voice against immigrants and refugees, so they do nothing until it's too late to take back their country in a nonviolent way.
That's basically what I meant by the first 2 lines in 252. They don't stop until it ends in disaster.

278 :名無しさん@英語勉強中 :2018/07/26(木) 00:27:35.04 ID:WO4ke3uJ0FOX.net
In the broadcast of Brexist on our TV, a random woman interviewed in London before the vote result was literally saying "No more foreigners" or something. She seemed tired of them.
If you have actually followed what's been happening in the EU now and still think like 264, I have nothing to say to you.
(Not that I wanted to argue with you to begin with: I replied to you first but my intention was to just post my thoughts in this thread)

So, this is actually the only place they can barely communicate with others; because in English, their second language, people usually won't bother to point out how stupid their comments are.
The worst part is they think their English is at a very fair level while most of their sentences are either full of grammatical mistakes or are just pathetically unnatural.

Oh, thanks. Yeah it sure is tough. This year it's like our environment's been trying to collect all the debt we owe him at this point in time.
But, what I'm afraid the most now is that that earthquake in the Chubu region everybody's been talking about these years, whose scale is said likely to be equivalent to that of the Tohoku Earthquake years ago.
I thought the earthquake last month might be triggering it somehow but strangely enough there hasn't been single perceivable earthquake ever since. It's like the calm before the storm. I'm so scared I'm peeing in my underwear.

I think that he must have been chosen because of some of his VERY Japanese 'good old days' movies, and I'm a little disappointed because I was expecting something new.
What do you think?

337 :名無しさん@英語勉強中 :2018/07/30(月) 20:35:39.76 ID:40Geualb0.net
As long as Ringo Shiina and Mikiko are involved, the ceremonies will be edgy.

338 :名無しさん@英語勉強中 :2018/07/30(月) 21:13:24.56 ID:U+IvDrYw0.net
Ringo is a national shame. Why she was chosen?

Well it’s obvious she slept with so many 業界人 including her current husband who is originally from notorious Dentsu even though he had a wife and child.
Ringo is very infomous for destroying married couples.

I don't think so. As most of the Western countries don't interfere with a personal life a like France, so your outdated way of thinking is rather the national shame.

I hate "real Jews" like Hitler and they are ugly as they are Asians. And that's why he wanted to deprive Germany of the Western modern democratic society, and his desire had been realised in Japan. I hate Japan as long as there's neither democracy nor individualism in her.

The famous essayist Koizumi Yakumo (real name Lafcadio Hearn, whose father was British/Irish and mother was Greek)
said that the ancient Greeks and Japanese are the only people who have a love for insects,
in comparison to the brutal Romans and (in his words) human-centric Christians.
I think he would be very disappointed if he saw what Japan has become (he came here in 1890 and died in 1904),
but anyway, I too have little interest in the Roman Empire and Christianity and a strong interest in Greek philosophy,
so maybe there is something between us and Greece.

If so many people have such restricted reading skills, it should be attributed to other factors includig a wealth gap or something.

I see nothing to worry about in that.

It is called daylight saving time in the US and summertime in the UK according to the dictionary but BBC call it daylight saving time. I'm confused.

Philippine English is not American English or British English.
Philippine English has a Filipino accent, and its expressions and usages are peculiar to the Philippines.
Even highly-educated Filipinos speak with a Filipino accent.
I have spoken with dozens or even hundreds of cultured Filipinos, and I found that their English is full of mistakes.
Filipino-accented English has faults, especially in pronunciations, prepositions (equivalent to te, ni, wo, ha in Japanese language),
nouns in the plural, auxiliary verbs and countable nouns.
In addition, numerals and genders.
The reason is easily explained. Their language does not have the same grammatical rules as real English.
In actuality, they speak Filipino-accented English with their own grammar and pronunciation.
Although several millions of Filipinos can communicate with each other without difficulties in their English, it is not American English.

I think that Ireland is a good place to study abroad.
This is because every English teacher speaks RP, very nice British English, and many of them are also good at teaching.
Moreover, diligence and having a fervor for education are part of the national character of Ireland.
I have often heard that Europeans strongly recommend Ireland rather than the UK as a great place to study abroad.
They said that although the UK is a good place for a vacation, Ireland is the best place to study.
However, it is true that ordinary Irish people speak heavily-accented English.
You should consider whether it is acceptable or not.

I think he is not the best, but he's not bad either.
I don't trust or listen to either side of the American
mainstream media (CNN or Fox, anything in between),
because they are always trying to spin everything to fit
their narrative. (CNN acts like Trump is the devil, Fox
says everything he does and says is amazing/sucks his dick)

He has done some good things while he has been in office,
although he often says dumb things on social media.
I like how he respects veterans and puts us first, but
that sometimes strains relationships with other countries
(which I don't like).

To be honest, I think too many American
politicians have been TOO accepting of other countries lately.
For example, there has been a huge issue in certain states
because immigrants will come illegally to our country and
set up their own gang networks among innocent communities
of legal migrants. The legal migrants come out themselves to
protest the government allowing this to happen- telling stories
about how family members were raped or killed because of the
migrant gang violence, and yet the government does nothing.
So when someone like Trump got elected, it made me happy,
even though I might not agree with everything he says.
It made me feel like, "Oh, at least we are not going to get
stepped and spat on for the next 4 years".

All in all, I have a positive opinion of him, but I keep my doubts.
I knew he would end up winning before the election because of how
big a meme he had become (lol).

North Carolina.
I'm not in one of those weird rural states where the water is full of lead,
but I'm also not in New York or Miami. To be honest it's really nice here.
There's a lot of people and plenty of things to do. There are cities in this state
a reasonable drive away. I'm sure international news shows a lot of riots and crime
going on in the US, but over here in NC it's really calm- even in the cities.
For example- after Trump got elected and the news was showing riots 24/7,
people who wanted to go to those riots had to drive up to other states to get involved.
Just like anywhere else in the world, there are areas of the US you should avoid
if you want to live a peaceful and happy life.

The tech boom that's been happening lately here has been attracting a ton of indian people-
which isn't that bad, as most of them are nice. Unless you work in retail (lol).
Living here is a little expensive, but there is plenty of business in the area to compensate.
Not much to say other than that.
North Carolina is a great place to live,
but it wouldn't be that exciting to visit alone.

Health problems? What are you, 75 years old with heart attack history?
Despite your concern over shifting in our work hours somehow affects people's health, I think it's safe to say there won't be any major issue in light of the precedent set by other countries.
Also, it will be this one time thing, if people hate it, we wouldn't be hearing about it for the next couple of decades, I guess.

No one wants to get up two hours earlier than usual just for the Olympic Games.
It entails costs, preparation time and stress on health. Practically speaking, it is difficult to implement such a system in just one year.

And frankly, I'm no longer very interested in the games as it is determined that swimming finals will be held in the morning.
The most interesting event will not to be held in the primetime here.

And I'm stunned by the fact that some US states do not adopt it.

Your life will never change if you just sit there and hope for it.
Figure out what you want, and chase it! Even if it's girl's
panties, if you want it, go for it! Just don't commit a crime please!

To help you, here is the easy guide to becoming happy
from a formerly shut-in gaijin who now earns respect from others.

473 :American :2018/08/10(金) 10:37:05.54 ID:pe1n7iGD0.net
>>464
Step 1: stop masturbating so much. I know it sounds silly, but hear me out.
You should only ever masturbate when you are really horny- not when you are bored.
If you find your brain thinking "why not masturbate" instead of "my cock is
about to explode I'm going to bust one out right now", you are doing it too much.
Never ejaculate two days in a row (especially at the start).
Fill that bored time by working towards a goal- I recommend working out. The more you
do this, the closer you will get to your goal. This will boost your self confidence, making
you more attractive and less worried.

It can be really hard at first. But please trust me and try it. You will start to feel yourself
having a lot more energy, and wont want to go back to fapping every day.

474 :American :2018/08/10(金) 10:38:48.17 ID:pe1n7iGD0.net
Step 2: Get more sleep

Especially for Japanese people I can see this being very difficult.
This is something incredibly important. ALWAYS MAKE SURE
YOU GET 8 HOURS OF SLEEP EVERY NIGHT. always.
Don't lie to yourself and say, "oh I will be fine tomorrow". do it.
Sleep is very important to your health, and if you don't get enough
it can have serious negative effects. If you miss a full 8 hours for
even 1 day, your brain will not be able to process information as fast,
and you will feel sluggish all day. If you regularly miss sleep, it can
damage your brain. Morning time is very nice, so be sure to enjoy it.

I had a lot of trouble learning to force myself to sleep, being a former
insomniac. Try listening to something soft, like an audio book or ASMR
while lying down, to keep your mind from thinking about bad things. If you
still have trouble sleeping, it is most likely due to your brain staying active and
preventing you from relaxing. Try to follow a train of thought- think about
something positive- and then try to think slower to allow yourself to relax. I
really recommend ASMR though. It will give you the most relaxing sleep,
leading to the most energy in the mornings.

475 :American :2018/08/10(金) 10:39:09.79 ID:pe1n7iGD0.net
Another important thing for those who work: if you have a goal you
are chasing very seriously- especially something based in skill- that
you do every day, try to do it during the mornings. This is when you
will be feeling refreshed, and your mind will be the most open to
learning and forming new ideas. Even if you do not have a shounen-
manga-style goal, try to wake up a couple hours before work to have
time to yourself. It can be hard, and you will have to sacrifice some
parties, but it will be worth it. You will feel much more fulfilled in life
being able to take time for yourself in the morning, and the ladies find
it very attractive when their man is up beforehand (seemingly) getting
things done.

Oh, and waking up to an alarm is important. Even on your day off, set one.
You can give yourself an extra hour or two, especially if you missed an hour
the day before, but never more than two. You should always be waking up to
your alarm. Never hit snooze.

476 :American :2018/08/10(金) 10:39:38.28 ID:pe1n7iGD0.net
Step 3: working out

If you are a guy, working out is important. I get it, not every guy is the type that will
look good muscular or have an easy time making it to the point of being fit. But
for us it has a huge impact. Working out in the morning may make you feel tired at first-
this is natural. As you get used to it though, it will make you feel happier throughout your
day and give you a big boost in confidence. You don't have to do it to get a beach body.
Do it because it makes you feel good. Then show off after a couple months (lol).

477 :American :2018/08/10(金) 10:40:31.12 ID:pe1n7iGD0.net
Step 4: force yourself to talk to people more

Learning to hold a conversation is hard, but you can only learn it from experience. The more
you talk to people, the more your personality will develop. Don't be fake, and don't talk
too much. Sometimes people will like you more if you know when to be silent and just take
in your surroundings. Always be confident. Even if what you are saying is not particularly
interesting or funny, you can still captivate people with the way you say it.

478 :American :2018/08/10(金) 10:43:09.89 ID:pe1n7iGD0.net
The most important part of having a conversation is UNDERSTANDING WHERE THE
ENTERTAINMENT IS. You will often have to think about what you are going to say
beforehand, don't be ashamed. For example: when someone asks you what you have
been doing today, you can say "I played dark souls." or get embarrassed and say
"Nothing much". Especially with a girl. They might not want to hear about games,
and think you are nerdy, right? Wrong. You just have to KNOW WHERE THE
ENTERTAINMENT IS. Try something like "I was playing this game dark souls. The
boss was so hard that by the time I beat him I felt like I really was a hero who slayed a dragon!
I died so many times thinking "What? He can do that?". So when I won I felt like I really did
something great, (etc.) Even if you are doing something boring, try to find an interesting way
to think about it. Also, if you are worried about being too nerdy for a girl, try to steer the
conversation in a direction she can relate to, and never talk too much about the actual
process of whatever you are doing unless she asks. Too much detail turns women
away instantly, because they think you don't understand they have no knowledge
of it. If she waned game facts, she would go to wikipedia.
Try and always end your story in a way that makes it easy for her to relate to it.

Self deprecating humor is not attractive to women (but it's always funny to men),
so try not to do it around them.

479 :American :2018/08/10(金) 10:44:07.35 ID:pe1n7iGD0.net
Step 5: Always be self-analytical. This is the only way to get better at anything in life,
so don't do it only when you need to. Take some time to reflect on yourself every day,
with these four things in mind:
-What do I want
-How do I get it
-How far have I come from where I started
-Am I satisfied where I am
If you ever reach "yes" on the last one, make sure to keep doing what you need to so that it
stays a "yes". Then, when you are sure you will continue to say "yes", find the next thing
to work on. If you need help getting motivated, think about the worst outcome.
Then think about what you will do so that worst outcome never comes true.
Build on it, and make it so the thing you want comes true.

480 :American :2018/08/10(金) 10:52:04.22 ID:pe1n7iGD0.net
Final step: Posture
If you are sitting, standing, crouching, whatever- always have a straight back and your head
held high. You will have better breathing, leading to better focus. And posture is HUGE
to women. If they see a guy who is always slouched or has his shoulders forward, they will
immediately form a negative opinion (yes, good looking women are this ruthless). Try to focus
on pressing your shoulders back so they are even with your chest. your back can bend forward
a little as you puff out your chest. This is optimal manly posture. Be the man you always knew
you could be. Don't be afraid of your nipples sticking out too much and be confident in your
body- even if you puff out your chest, people won;t know how your body looks under your
shirt any more than they did before. Own it. Even if you are chubby. Plenty of chubby guys
puff out there chest here in America and it actually works really well.

481 :American :2018/08/10(金) 10:59:56.40 ID:pe1n7iGD0.net
>>464
Only other piece of advice I have is "if you are feeling tired early in the day,
and you have had enough sleep,
take a break and eat. Not a snack, something filling that will give you energy.
If you are a skinny guy force yourself to eat more. You will feel a huge difference
in energy, as if blood is finally rushing back to your brain.
I have experimented so much with my own hunger/fatigue that I can now
feel when my brain is starting to slow down from not eating enough specifically.
I could be tired from something else, and still feel when my body needs food
for the energy before hunger actually sets in. If you feel hunger in your
stomach, you are well past the point where your brain has started slowing down from
not taking in enough nutrients.

Good luck, brother. I hope you can make a place where you are happy (that is NOT
in a coffin).

This is something I've been feeling for a while, but there seem to be a lot of politicians and others who are waiting for an opportunity to suck China's cock.
If people show any kind of friendliness to China or its people, they will sell our country to China in 2 seconds.
In order to prevent it, the only option we have in a dumbocratic country like ours is to be cold and stern and shout Fuck China like people were doing on 2ch when there was some incident.

Our politicians etc are already starting to suck China's cock, it seems. Fortunately, other countries seem to have become aware of the Chinese threat.

Weebs influence other people in their country to think that anime = Japan.
So foreigners go there expecting over-the-top craziness, spiky colored hair,

I could relate to that in here. Otaku people think anime's been accepted in mainstream culture and people from other countries like it too, despite the fact most of us don't care for it much.
Honestly, seeing those flyers using anime-like character as promotion put up all over the place disgusts me. It's just so cringy and almost unbearable watching.
It's good that they have their own interest, but just because they like it doesn't mean we all like it either. It's like they're forcing their ideals onto everyone else. That action itself will be frowned upon regardless of whether it being anime or not.

There might be practical reasons why some companies use anime characters in their ads.
For instance, Otakus don't hesitate to spend money to get anything that has even slightly to do with anime, even if it costs them far more than it's worth. And companies have every reason to capitalize on that, don't they?
Or it might just be that using anime characters costs less than signing a contract with actual acters/actresses.
Anyway, I think the recent upsurge in anime ads is mostly about making profits, not preaching Otaku culture or something.
if most people find these ads disgusting, companies would drop them immediately or wouldn't let them go out in the first place. It would badly affect their sales otherwise.

The anime style used in those 3 commercials are not really otaku stuff. Those are cinematic anime style which doesn't cater to otakus only but is accepted by a wider audience.

Seeing your over-the-top disgust towards the flyers, I thought you were complaining about more otaku-ish things like "moe" or some vulgar stuff.
If you were complaining about the kind of stuff shown in the videos from the beginning, then I just pity you for having such a morbidly low tolerance to anything anime.

But for the sake of the argument, let's say those commercials are disgusting otaku shit that is only accepted by otakus.
Now, were the decisions to make and air those commercials made by otakus? I don't think so.
Otakus are not the ones who are making the disgusting anime shit ads. Rather, the companies make those ads to attract otakus like >>504 said.
So otakus are not the ones you should be blaming for the disgusting anime shit ads. That was my point from the beginning.

I DIDN'T say "We always need to be objective", so I haven't said anything contradictory to myself at this point in time.

To get an idea, look up the movie 君の名は。 and see how well it has been received. That's the kind of anime movies non-otaku people watch these days.
And I'm not "defending" those things. I just think those are not something that is worth making a fuss about even if you don't like anime.

My point is that what you said in the last couple sentences in >>491 is logically incorrect, as otakus are not the ones responsible for the flyers/ads.
I don't care if you hate anime or not.

Alright, I got it. It's not otaku's faults that these ads are now everywhere.

Let me clarify again. I'm not hating on their stuff, I just don't like having those stuff around where it's not supposed to be.

Of course they receive positive reactions from the audience because the audience went through the trouble going to movie theaters, payed some money and watched it,
Plus, movies usually get high ratings unless it horribly messes up in visual or screenplay.
This is especially the case for the ones like animation, because animation are primarily for minor audience (kids won't notice a little mess-up, do they?).

And they don't bother me at all, because they've been kept to the right places all the way through.
But once it's outside of their field and makes their way into other areas like ads/stations/shops/restaurants etc. Don't you find it a bit too much?
Because whether you like it or not, anime in the styles like the movie that you just mentioned aren't fully accepted by general population; particularly from senior generation.
I also don't like to have people from other countries pointing their fingers at us and say "Hey, it's the country of anime!!"

By "look up", I meant you should get information about the movie.
That movie is the fourth highest grossing film of all time in Japan, first being Sen to Chihiro (Ghibli), second Titanic, and third Frozen (Disney).
If people felt so uncomfortable about that anime style like you do, they wouldn't have gone to see it in the first place.
And I don't see why all ads should be senior-friendly at all times, especially companies like Nissin, McDonald's, and Benesse of all things.
How much is too much depends on the person.

Why it needs to be senior-friendly? Because companies owe a certain level of responsibility to the society. It's called "corporate compliance". They always need to be considerate about how consumers feel of their activities.
Companies should immediately cease their own activities based on public opinions, even if what they are doing were reasonable and working very well for them.
Haven't you ever heard of the news that some commercials were dropped? Or they had to, because people hated it so badly that the requests were made by people with a petition.

I had no idea that movie was so popular that it made a huge hit, I can totally understand the other three though.
That alone doesn't really account for how well these anime are actually accepted by people. It might be? But maybe it was just the movie was exceptionally good.

But seriously, can you honestly say you won't feel uncomfortable/embarrassed even a bit with these anime ads being there all around you?
To make it easier for you to understand the point I'm trying to make here, I'll give you an example.
Let's suppose that you liked these anime, can you then proudly say it aloud that you like watching them to people around you, just as saying your hobbies are listening to music or playing sports?
If you can't, isn't that because you're embarrassed about it too? Think realistically here, because you do sound like you're saying all these stuff so you don't have to concede to other's opinions.

If those ads are so unpopular among the public and get a lot of complaints, they will be dropped, like >>504 said. I never claimed anything contrary.

Not being senior-friendly doesn't necessarily mean being harmful to seniors. If it does mean that, it was just my poor English.

And no, I don't feel uncomfortable with those ads at all, at least with those 3 commercials.

You mean that people are making up fake stories in order to distract from the main issue? That's very typical.
In my country the government does that very often. Every time there's a real scandal they come up with a fake scandal that's even bigger and more outrageous, but obviously fake. So the discussion strives away from the real issue to pointless fights.
However, right now the media all around the world is discussing the many ways in which japanese society discriminates against women.
I was wondering what do you think of this. Are you guys happy that this issue is finally being brough up? Or are you embarrassed or angry that japanese society is being criticized by people around the world?

I don't care a bit how the world sees Japan.
But I'm pretty uncomfortable with being pointed at and branded "an oprrssor" when never in my life have I done anything discriminatory against women.
I do admit that I've been mean to some women sometimes but that's not because they're women.
I just don't like some people regardless of their sex.

I don't know much about the university scandal, but if some filthy sickos got caught and exposed, then that's a good thing.

As for the foreign media calling our country an oppressive shithole, that's what they do everytime there is some scandal of that kind.
They did the same thing when some shitty male politician heckled some shitty female politician by yelling something about giving birth to children.
A bunch of western journalists gathered together and commented how awful it was.
If I remember correctly, some journalist from Europe (I think she was Bulgarian) was like this:

"Such a backward country... In this day and age, something like this would never happen in my country."

And I sometimes think I'm glad I wasn't born in the West because of things like this.

There are some good politicians working hard to fight the failed-for-two-decades establishment and fix the country.
There are also some good non-henchman economists and commentators, especially on the less controlled media like the radio, local TV stations, and internet.
If you insist on ignoring them, then you are in no position to be disappointed with the country as you are part of the problem you are whining about.

Religious faith is marvelous, and falling into this will result in losing all intelligence.
People with intelligence originally are respected because they can correctly judge things.
But if he is being inflicted by religion it seems to be correct at first glance but
it can not be relied upon.
It is unfortunately infected with religious beliefs, regardless of intelligence, just like disease.

It is widely believed blood type affects personalities in Japan.
Some scientists published papers to support this hypothesis in the early 20th but subsequent studies denied it.
Though, the superstition still prevails in Japan today.
Many foreigners feel this unreasonable or unfounded but there is a possibility that it really affects personalities because of imprinting.
We've been told so many times like "you must be blood type A because you are discreet" This kind of imprinting could actually modify someone's personalities.

In 4chan should we,Japanese english speaker,make a thread?

On the /int/ board of 4chan there are plenty of Japanese posters.
https://boards.4chan.org/int/
There is also almost always a Japanese language thread here, and usually a Japanese learning thread (DJT)
https://boards.4chan.org/int/catalog#s=japanese
Sometimes in the Learn Japanese thread, Japanese people will ask for help with English, but aside from that there really aren't many people asking for help (with English)
Still, there are quite a decent number of Japanese posters on this board so you should chat if you want to!
I don't think that they are common on the other boards though.

Teaching Japanese in English is extremely difficult due to my lack of knowledge about Japanese and limitations in English.
Someone asks the difference between で and に like 家の近くに店が出来る and 家の近くで店が出来る.
We differentiate them instinctively, and thus don't know how to teach it.
So I have to look it up before teaching.

に describes a place where something exists and で describes a place where something is done.
So the former sentence is more natural.
But if we remove 家 from the sentences like 近くに店が出来る and 近くで店が出来る both become natural and only nuances change slightly.
The former emphasizes a place where a store is built while the latter focuses more on the fact that a store is built.

I'm thinking about writing this in another site but ceased to do it and instead write it in here for practicing English.
The site requires accurate explanations and decent English that alienates me...

plz tell me

this time i saw many times that serena williams was called as GOAT.
so i checked the meaning and found a answer.

"Sometimes people call the player who messes up to lose the game the goat.
But the GOAT that I mean is the Greatest of All Time: G-O-A-T.
So let’s find athletes competing these days who are the Greatest of all time at what they do.
Consider New York Yankees relief pitcher Mariano Rivera."

which meaning does this case be applied??

A girl pop group performed on TV last night. They consist of several nationals who speak some Japanese.
They remind me of the importance of precise pronunciation.
I though as long as you can communicate in the language your pronunciation is okay but it's not.
A accent makes communication difficult. I shouldn't be complacent about the present situation.

Now I begin to learn Chinese whose accent is vastly different from Japanese or English. This provides me with good opportunities to think about pronunciations.

I can relate to you. I want to improve my pronunciation too.; hopefully make it perfect even.
But I don't know that is necessarily the right attitude to take.
Just think about it. How much time and energy would it take to perfect your pronunciation, and by extention, to learn the A to Z of English idioms and phrasal verbs?
At leat 10,000 hours. Even more.
You also might have to learn to use English articles(a/the), modal verbs(can/will/may, etc) and so on.
And all of this is just to make it easier to communicate with NATIVE SPEAKERS, and native speakers only.
How unjust it is that we should dedicate thounsands of hours just to make them feel comfortable, not vice versa.
Besides, it's way too ridiculous to set your eyes on native speakers only, when there are tremendous numbers of English speakers out there whose mother tongue is not English.
You don't have to have native speaker's fluency to communicate with them. It is even possible that you might just baffle them with your native-like fluency.

I totally agree with you. It is a waste of time to be perfect so the target for non-native speakers should be near perfect.
Still, it takes a lot of time as you said.
The last night TV show makes me think about something that I have never cared about: pronunciation.

It is difficult for non-native speakers to exude their intent so the word might be useful for them.
W, Japanese equivalent of the word, is still widely used in 5Chan.

I have some reservations about the content but it tells me a lot about the tennis player and the importance of pronunciation. "hafu" is used four times!

798 :名無しさん@英語勉強中 :2018/09/18(火) 13:32:26.79 ID:VLDYx9pf0.net
"hafu" is a Japanese term like "tofu".

799 :名無しさん@英語勉強中 :2018/09/18(火) 17:45:02.55 ID:/dt5nh750.net
Personally I don't think hafu is an offensive word.
Nips say "half" like kind of "hafu" 'cause japanese words always end with a vowel.
That's why FAKKU is FAKKU.

If you are a bachelor and plan to live alone, my recommendation to live in Tokyo would be Kasai or Nishikasaki.
The reason is that the rent there is reasonable.
The nearby station is lively and you can have numerous food options. Kasai station has a direct bus that goes to both Narita and Haneda airport.

Reddit is difficult to use in that I don't know how strongly I should retort when I encounter comments based on misunderstandings. I get used to the standard of 5ch so much that I feel the need of restraint.
But retorting in moderate tone is very difficult when speaking in other languages.
It is far easier to use the strongest words but of course it doesn't seem adequate in the site. Again, I feel I'm not best suited to the site or that I have to improve my English drastically.

Learning Chinese helps me improve my English because it gives me a new mindset of learning other languages.
And NHK offers a good TV program of Chinese. A Chinese assistant speaks perfect Japanese, which also encourages me a lot by showing the possibilities of mastering other languages completely.
But it is difficult to master English without the speaking with natives. I drastically improved my English while staying in the US with host families but my English severely deteriorated after I left the US and not using it for a while.
Some people suggest I take online eikaiwa schools but I will be a customer in the schools so it is a little different from real life conversations. As a result I cannot push the limitations in such circumstances.
So my motivations to improve English now waned and Chinese become my main focus.
